Baku Marionette Theatre of the Administration of the “Icherisheher” State Historical-Architectural Reserve is the first and only marionette theatre in Azerbaijan. The theatre was officially established by the order of the Chairman of the Azerbaijan Theatremakers’ Union Mr. Lutfiyar Imanov on April 20, 1988. So, in 2023 Baku Marionette Theatre celebrates its 35th Anniversary. The artistic head and managing director of the theatre, Tarlan Gorchu, has created a special “35th Anniversary” logotype for the anniversary events that will last until the end of the year. Media and anyone featuring Baku Marionette Theatre are offered to make use of that logo.

Amazing poetry party entitled “Yenə o bağ olaydı” took place at our Theatre on March 29. The event organized by Lithuanian Embassy to Azerbaijan was devoted to Lithuanian poet Vytautas Mačernis (1921-1944) and wellknown Azerbaijani poet Mikayil Musjfiq (1908-1938). Contemporary poets from both our countries also participated. The event’s audience met the presented poems and video clips with pleasure and gratitude.

Azer Mukhtarov, who is a lighting artist at the Baku Marionette Theatre since 2016, and is a well-known specialist of the most advanced, modern stage lighting and sound systems, was awarded with a congratulatory diploma of the Administration of "Icherisheher" State Historical-Architectural Reserve on the occasion of his 50th anniversary and for contributing to the theatre’s successful activities.

Another charity performance of the show of “Arshin Mal Alan” was arranged at the Baku Marionette Theatre on the eve of the traditional spring holiday Novruz, this time benefitting kids and elders of the ‘Icherisheher’ State Historical and Architectural Reserve residents. Among the guests there were veterans of the Karabakh war, wounded while fighting for the liberation of Karabakh and its related regions from the Armenian occupation. After the performance, a tea party was held on the terrace of the theatre. The audience was greeted by the head officials of both the “Icherisheher” Management and the Marionette Theatre..

On the second festive Tuesday of the traditional Novruz holiday of the coming spring, on 28th February, a special event was held at the Baku Marionette Theatre – the show of “Arshin Mal Alan” was performed for the management of the Administration of the State Historical and Architectural Reserve “Icherisheher” and members of its Council of Aghsaggals (Patriarchs).
