Two exhibitions were launched at YARAT Contemporary Art Space on June 8: Aida Mahmudova's solo exhibition "Heaven Can Wait" and the group exhibition "The Seventh Solitude".
The group exhibition brings together the captivating works of a talented ensemble of Azerbaijani artists, including Huseyn Hagverdiyev, Tarlan Gorchu, Orkhan Huseynov, Ramal Kazim, Novruz Mammadov, Faraj Rahmanov, Eltaj Zeynalov, Ismayil Safarali, and Nadir Eminov. This exhibition showcases both commissioned pieces by YARAT and other works created by these artists in recent years. Drawing inspiration from Nietzsche's enigmatic concept of the “Seventh Solitude”, the group exhibition endeavors to connect the fundamental values of modern estrangement, presence, and eternal return within the social context.
An artwork by Tarlan Gorchu displayed at the exhibition is an originally created carpet called by the author "Along the Way of Solitude".

In the framework of the annual dolls festival, hold in the city of Neustadt bei Coburg (Germany) since 1993, winners of the Max-Oscar-Arnold Award for the contemporary dolls art were announced. A couple from Baku - our artists Parviz Huseynov and Irina Gundorina - won the Best Fantasy Image nomination of this prestigious international award. We join to all addressed to them congratulations and wish Parviz and Irina new creative achievements!
The Max-Oscar-Arnold Award is often called the "Oscar for doll-makers". It was established by the city of Neustadt bei Coburg in honor of Max Oskar Arnold, the founder of the city-forming dolls and doll-clothing company.

Aloud reading of the plays submitted to Lyubimovka International Independent Dramaturgy Festival will be held at Baku Marionette Theatre within June 6 - July 4. As a non-commercial international project of Russian-speaking playwrights, this festival had been organized in Moscow for more than 30 years, but after Russia's aggression against Ukraine, its artistic board decided to stop their events in Russia. So, Lyubimovka-2022 was held in Kazakhstan. Besides, the festival play-readings were held in such cities as Tbilisi, Tel Aviv, Haifa, Narva, Tartu, Paris, Belgrade, Istanbul, and Berlin.
“Echoes of Lyubimovka in Baku” is supported by Baku Marionette Theatre, the art portal Teatro.az and the art-hab Katalizator. The Baku festival is curated by playwright Ismayil Iman. Aloud reading of the plays will be performed in Azerbaijani and Russian languages. Also lectures, master classes and public discussions will be held as part of the festival events. Free admission. Age of 18+ and pre-registration required.

In 2023, Baku Marionette Theatre celebrates its 35th Anniversary. On May 16, in the framework of the jubilee events, a detailed excursion / presentation was organized in the theatre for the staff of the Administration of the “Icherisheher” State Historical-Architectural Reserve. The event was held with participation of our actors-puppeteers. Artistic head and managing director of the theatre, Tarlan Gorchu, guided the guests and made the presentation featuring specifics of the art of marionettes in general and activities of Baku Marionette Theatre particularly. The event participants took advantage of the unique opportunity to see the theatre’s backstage and get the feeling of how the marionette show’s magic borns.

Baku Marionette Theatre of the Administration of the “Icherisheher” State Historical-Architectural Reserve is the first and only marionette theatre in Azerbaijan. The theatre was officially established by the order of the Chairman of the Azerbaijan Theatremakers’ Union Mr. Lutfiyar Imanov on April 20, 1988. So, in 2023 Baku Marionette Theatre celebrates its 35th Anniversary. The artistic head and managing director of the theatre, Tarlan Gorchu, has created a special “35th Anniversary” logotype for the anniversary events that will last until the end of the year. Media and anyone featuring Baku Marionette Theatre are offered to make use of that logo.
