Being constantly involved with promotion of Uzeyir Hajibeyli’s creative heritage, Baku Marionette Theatre had arranged its another event dedicated to the 140th anniversary of this great composer and playwright. The event was organized with participation of the Social Services Agency under the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Azerbaijan. On April 17, a charity show was performed for the kids from the Children’s Social Service Institution No. 3 and the beneficiaries of the Social Service Institution No. 2 for persons with disabilities under the age of 18. The musical comedy “Arshin Mal Alan” by Uzeyir Hajibeyli was shown to our lovely guests.

September 18, 2025 is the date of the 140th anniversary of Uzeyir Hajibeyli, a brilliant Azerbaijani composer and outstanding person, who left his invaluable contribution to the history of culture. In connection with this anniversary, Baku Marionette Theatre, whose mission has always been to popularize Uzeyir-Bey’s stage heritage, will arrange a number of interesting events. The first of them took place on March 18 in cooperation with the Social Services Agency under the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of Azerbaijan. It was a charity show performed for schoolchildren of Orphanage No. 2 on the eve of the Novruz Holiday. The musical of “Arshin Mal Alan” became an unforgettable holiday gift for the children! Happy Novruz!

YARAT Contemporary Art Space launcheed the group exhibition “Me and the Ark, Me and the Great Flood” featuring works by local and international artists. The exhibition will last until 26.10.2025. Inspired by a contemporary interpretation of Nasimi’s philosophy, this exhibition displays sculptures, installations and audiovisual projects by Azerbaijani artists Tarlan Gorchu and Orkhan Huseynov, and artists Mladen Milyanovic (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and Pavla Nikitina (Czech Republic).

In mid-October 2024, streets of the medieval Baku Fortress were once again transformed into a film set. For several days our Icherisheher turned into Istanbul of 1905. Façade of the Marionette Theatre was transformed, too – our street ads were completely hidden, ornamental bars were installed onto the windows, and finally the Moscow filmmakers had placed a sign of an Istanbul tailor from 1905 above the Theatre entrance…

The show of “ARSHIN MAL ALAN” performed by Baku Marionette Theatre turned to be the last chord of the International “SHOMBAI-FEST – 2024” Festival, held in Kazan from June 25 to July 3, 2024. The Kazan audience named our show “The Pearl of The Festival.” The festival jury awarded the team of the Baku Puppet Theatre with a special nomination named “For fidelity to the art of playing puppets.”
